My cruise control is not disengaging when I tap my brake, its actually causing it to accellerate.  I have to manually hit the off button on the steering wheel to get it to shut off.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is it a problem in my cruise control module?  my steering column?  my brakes?  I also noticed when this started that my gear shift will not move unless I push down very hard on the brake pedal.  Any idea's or help would be appreciated.  This is a 2005 Ford Excursion Diesel 4 x 4 with about 65,000 miles, automatic transmission.

I had the same problem with the gear shift.  It turned out the plastic end of the shift cable was broken near the stearing column.  The dealer fixed it in about an hour.
