I have a 2000 XLT and I had an issue with it not starting.  All accessory power would come on, truck would crank but not fire.  Instrument cluster was inoperative also with the theft light flashing once every 2 seconds.

Tracked it down to the 10 amp fuse that is for the gauge cluster, and the security transducer.  Replaced the fuse.....GOLD.

Went for a ride and 10 miles in I noticed the gauge cluster was dead and the theft light flashing like before.  Fuse blown.  Replaced again....GOLD.

Another 10 miles......fuse blown.

UPDATE 11-14-16.  After speaking with several Ford mechanics I found one that had just addressed the same issue.  Turns out that the fuse also operates the Overdrive button on the shift lever.  I opened the column and unplugged the OD button from the fine.  Now I just have to find the bad spot or replace the button/ wire.

Never heared about cases like this. A blown fuse every 10 miles... Please update when you find that weak spot. Thanks and good luck in your repair!  Wink
